Bear Down Cup Team Tournament 2026

The UA Badminton Committee is excited to announce UABC’s annual Bear Down Cup!! This tournament will be sharing the same format as our 2025 WildCat Cup; see explanation below.

Dates: Friday, April 10th (6pm-10pm)

We have NO GENDER CAPS, however in order to keep logistics manageable we have total entry caps
- Total 36 entries, first come first serve!!
Tournament Explanation and Timeline: 6 teams, 6 members per team, with 6 corresponding captains. Drafting will be conducted over zoom, where captains choose their team members. We encourage captains to get familiar with other players! Playing schedule and team rosters will be shared a few days before the start of the tournament for everyone to start planning.
- The Tournament Directors reserve the right to cancel, postpone, or modify the tournament format, schedule, and prize distribution at their sole discretion.

NEW TOURNAMENT FORMAT! Bear Down Cup will be played using a doubles-based format while still maintaining a round-robin structure.
- Team structure: Captains will rank their six players, according to strategy and strengths. Doubles pairs are then formed in playing order (1&2), (2&3), (3&4), (4&5), (5&6), and (6&1).
- The Game: Matches are played to 60 total points, where each pair plays in sequence. At 10-point intervals, any team to reach intervals first will trigger the next doubles pair to rotate in
  - Pair 1&2 → plays until one team reaches 10 points
  - Pair 2&3 → continues until one team reaches 20 points
  - Pair 3&4 → continues until 30 points
  - Pair 4&5 → continues until 40 points
  - Pair 5&6 → continues until 50 points
  - Pair 6&1 → continues until 60 points (final round)
  - Points are cumulative! First team to reach 60 points wins the round.
- The tournament will feature a round-robin style, where each team plays against all other teams, and the first team to reach 60 points receives a match point. The team with the most match points at the end of the tournament will be declared the winner.

- Winners receive trophies, bragging rights, and their victory posted on all UABC social media platforms!
We are asking for members to sign up to be TEAM CAPTAINS
- Team captains draft registered participants to be a part of their team, so we advise all those who want to be team captains to know members of UABC relatively well!
- The UA Badminton Committee has the right to deny anyone their captain status
This tournament is a TEAM tournament, please make sure to show up!

- If you can NOT show up, you must notify with more than 48 hours notice. Not doing so will result in a warning and a fine. A second warning will result in future tournament bans.
UABC will provide shuttles for this tournament.
