We are excited to announce that Ladder League will be taking over Challenge Court. There have been a few changes to better accommodate club members. We have ditched the game coordination email system, reduced the number of events, and reserved two courts at practice for the duration of the league.
Only UA club members may participate and the league starts Friday November 12, 2021 and ends Sunday, December 5, 2021.
**We will follow most updated rules on this page, not the initial email sent out**
Registration and Fees
- Registration starts at 12 noon 11/12 (earlier submissions will be deleted)
- Registration is open 11/12-12/5
- Players must register here (scroll down)
- One-Time Fee: $10 (regardless of # of events)
- Payment Methods: Cash (pay to Treasurer Sue Kwon) or CashApp (pay to $uabadminton)
Events
- We have three ladders: Singles, Doubles and Mixed
- Singles and Doubles ladders will be co-ed
- All genders will play together in the same ladder
- Doubles and Mixed entries will NOT be placed in the ladder until both partners complete registration
- Each player can only sign up for each event ONCE
Format
- No show for a practice session is a loss (Friday 6pm-10pm and Sunday 8am-12noon)
- Matches consist of 1 game of 21 points
- A challenge sheet is provided to indicate challenges/results
- Allowed to challenge up to 5 ranks above current position
- Challenges can only be made at practice session unless agreed by both parties
- Challenges can only be made once an ongoing challenge is completed, for each event
- Challenges planned on the sheet, but end up out of range will be canceled
- If time does not permit, the challenged party is allowed to postpone until the next practice ONLY by indicating on the challenge sheet
Ranking
- Initial rankings will be in order of online registration completion
- If the challenged party wins the ranking of the challenged party remains
- Winning a challenge will move your ranking to the ranking of the challenged party, and shift the challenged party and everyone else down 1 place
- Losing a challenge will drop the challenging party 1 place
- Ladder standings will be updated after every practice on our website
- Although there is one ladder for Singles and one ladder for Doubles, the order of men’s and women’s players will be examined independently as we will declare a winner in Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. The co-ed ladder offers opportunities for players to have more challenges and competition.
- Players who change partners or join past 1 hour before the first practice (11/12/2021) will start back at the bottom of the ranking
Rewards
- Top ranking student members (decided by ranking and the council) will be supported by the club via sponsorship* which will provide limited support in buying shuttles, club uniforms, tournament registration fees, and tournament travel expenses for the remainder of the academic year
- There will be a prize (TBD) for the top player/s of each category regardless of student status (we will award prizes for Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles even though the Singles and Doubles category is co-ed)
*Sponsorships are subject to the availability of the funds
