UABC is bringing back our annual beginners-only tournament: Smashkittens!

SMASHKITTENS REGISTRATION FORM

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Date: Sunday, October 9th
  • Time: 9AM – 12:30PM (or until all matches have finished)
  • Where: South Rec (1400 E 6th St, Tucson, AZ 85719), South Gym
  • Events/Format: Group Stage Round-Robin Doubles (further explanation below)
  • Entry Fee:
    • For Beginner Training students: $10
    • Regular Entry: $15 per player

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT(S), DATES, & DEADLINES

  • Registration open to UA Badminton Club Members ONLY (UA students can register for the club on DoSportsEasy)
  • Each player may only register once
  • Entry Cap: 12 teams or 24 players total (a maximum of 12 teams can register for this tournament)
  • Registration Opens: Now!!
  • Registration Closes: October 8th @ 11PM
    • If you can NOT show up, you must notify with more than 48 hours notice. Not doing so will result in a warning and possible future tournament bans.

Note: Payment is required BEFORE the tournament. If you do not pay fees by the deadline, you will be removed from the tournament. Online payments are available for your convenience. TOURNAMENT FORMAT & BEGINNER STATUS

BEGINNER CLASSIFICATION/DETERMINATION

  • The UA badminton Club committee will confirm/decide the beginner status of each participant (whether the individual is categorized as a beginner) before your team’s registration is finalized. Further questions/concerns regarding an individual’s beginner status may be discussed with in person with an officer or over email (uazbadminton@gmail.com)
  • Smashkittens participants must arrange a date for player evaluations in order to play in the tournament through this form: Player Evaluation Form
  • Beginner Lesson students will not need a formal evaluation unless deemed necessary. 

WHAT IS GROUP STAGE ‘ROUND-ROBIN’?

  • Group Stage Round-Robin is a tournament in which teams are assigned into groups, and teams face off against all other teams in their assigned group. Each match won by a team gets one point. The top two teams from each group will then advance to a final single-elimination stage.The two group winners face off in a Championship Match for 1st and 2nd place, while the two group runners-up play in a Bronze Match to determine 3rd place.   • The Tournament Directors reserve the right to cancel, postpone, or modify the tournament format, schedule, and prize distribution at their sole discretion.

CHOOSING A PARTNER

  • This is a doubles-only “Gender-Neutral Tournament”, meaning the gender of any individual player is not a factor in partner-pairing or matches (you may choose ANYONE to be your partner irrespective of gender)
  • Both partners in a team must be beginners (i.e. beginners may not choose non-beginners as partners and visa-versa)
  • If an individual does not have a partner but is a beginner and would still like to participate, please check “I need a partner” on the second question of the registration form and the committee will do their best to find one for you.
